SURENDRANATH BANDYOPADHYAY

urendranath Bandyopadhyay was a great freedom fighter and patriot of India. He was born at Barrakpur of North 24 Parganas on 10th November, 1848. He was born in a Bengali Bramhin s family. He was deeply influenced by his father Durga Charan Bandyopadhyay, a doctor. He was a student of extraordinary and exceptional talent. After the successful completion of his early education in India, Surendranath went over to England for doing I.C.S which he completed in 1871. Coming over to India he was appointed as a Government magistrate at Silet now in Bangladesh. But he was suspended from the post as he earned the displeasure of British. After this he devoted himself to teaching at Metropolitan School and also at the Ripon College  Surendranath's name and fame spread across the country for his outstanding power of oratory and organisation. He founded the Indian Association in 1876 and devoted himself to Indian politics. He wanted to unite the Indians especially the Hindus and Muslims in the interest of Indian politics. Surendranath Bandyopadhyay took an active part in the Partition of Bengal Movement starting in 1905. He was called the 'Crownless King' in the time. The British named him 'Surrender not' for his indomitable courage and uncompromising attitude. He was the pioneer of Indian National Congress. This great political leader, organizer and orator died on 6th August, 1925. But the ideas he lived with and fought for inspired thousands of freedom fighters later on.
