Ganesh Chaturthi

 

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the greatest festivals of India. People of India wait the whole year for this festival eagerly. Although it is celebrated all over the country, in the state of Maharashtra it is celebrated with a great effort. It is a Hindu festival which holds utmost importance in the religion. This festival is celebrated following the Hindu Mythology which says that Ganesh Chaturthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesha. The festival marked with the installation of Ganesha clay idols privately in homes or publicly or elaborate pandels. The supreme God of wisdom and prosperity, Lord Ganesha's birthday anniversary falls during the Hindu month of Bhadra i.e August/September. People celebrate Lord Ganesha festival by installing a statue and offering prayers for 11 days. The festival ends on Anant Chaturdashi with Ganesh Visarjan. The devotees of Lord Ganesha offer their prayers to God. They sing devotional song for him. They perform aartis in favour of the lord and seek his blessings on them. They offered Lord Ganesha with modak, Laddu and many other sweets. Early on it was celebrated in a few families. Later on, it spread all over and thus began the installation of idols and immersion in the water. This marked the starting of making Ganesh Chaturthi a larger than life festival. People hopping pandels and saw the idols of Vinayaka. Towards the end of the festival when the visarjan is about to take place, people carried out a full procession. When Ganesh Chaturthi ends, they pray for the return of Lord Ganesha every year. They look forward to this festivals every year. The final immersion of Lord Ganesha 's idols in the river or ocean marks the end of this festival. People all over the India thoroughly enjoy it. All the devotees come together irrespective of their differences of caste and color. This festival spreads joy and unites people all over.
