INDIA

India is my dear and beloved motherland. It is a very big and beautiful country. Burma and Bangladesh are to the east, Pakistan and the Arabian sea are to west, the sky-kissing Himalayas stand in the north and the roaring Bay of Bengal and the deep and the dark blue Indian Ocean lie to the south. The Ganges, Jamuna, Indus, Godavari, Kavery, Narmada etc are the main major rivers of the country. The Ganges is the largest and longest river here. There are 29 states and 9 union territories in India. New Delhi is the Capital of our country. India is a very old and ancient land. The country has a very rich and glorious culture and heritage. Foreigners and invaders had to come to the country down the ages. The British ruled over the land for nearly two centuries. India won her freedom on 15th August, 1947. Our country has made much progress in different spheres like Industry, agriculture, space technology etc. Mumbai is the largest city of India. The population of India is 135.20 cores. The history of sports in India dates back to the Vedic era. Physical culture in ancient India was fueled by religious rights. The mantra in Atharvaveda says, "Duty is in my right hand and the fruits of victory in my left". In terms of an ideal, these words hold the same sentimental as the traditional Olympic Oath, "For the Honour of my Country and the Glory of Sport". There are 22 languages which are spoken by the Indians. India has many Historical places like Hazarduari, Lal Kella, Tajmahal, India Gate, Qutub Miner etc. But India has also her problems. She is at present greatly troubled and distributed by the problems like poverty, illiteracy, terrorism and communal disharmony. At this critical moment, we all should unitedly fight these evil forces.

Like every free and independent countries, India has also a National flag of her own. It is the symbol of unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country. Our National flag came into being on 22nd July, 1947.It is a combination of three colors --saffron, white and deep green. The saffron is on top, the white in the middle and the deep green at the bottom of the flag. Each color has its definite meaning. The saffron color means sacrifice and selflessness. The white symbolizes truth and purity and the deep green is the symbol of courage and energy. The Ashok Chakra in the center stands for peace and progress. The National flag is hoisted on important national days like the Independence Day and the Republic Day. It flies at half-mast on the days of national and international mourning. The National Flag is a sacred thing. We all should always try to protect its prestige and purity at all costs.
