STUDENTS AND POLITICS

Opinions vary as to whether students should participate in politics or not.. Some persons are in favour of students;s participation in politics and some are against it.

The mainly duty is to acquire knowledge. Students life is the period of learning. A student should therefore, prepare himself to face problems of life. He is a member of the community and a future citizen of the country. So, it is natural for him to take interest in the political problems of his country and discuss them in the student's union. It is a good training for him. So in a democratic state a student cannot keep aloof from politics altogether. Some thoughtful men, on the other hand, say that students should not join in active politics. Their studies are bound to suffer and their future career may be ruined if they dabble in politics. Politics is a dirty game. Students are of tender age and they cannot make proper judgments. They are after all led by passion and are easily excited. Political leaders are not all patriots. Some of them try to exploit students for their own selfish ends. So students should be beware of such professional politicians. It is not proper for them to rush into politics, for they will get plenty of time for it later.

Active politics is often a dirty game which is full of passion and excitement and party feelings. Students are immature and emotional by nature. So once they get themselves involved in this passion and excitement, they become almost slaves to them like a person who is addicted to strong liquor.

It cannot be denied that there are good reasons both for and against students participation in politics. But in our opinion, it is better for students to avoid it. If they take an active part in politics, if they like, when they are grown up.

The most regrettable part of the affair is the role played by our political leaders in this dirty game.
