THE CURSE OF COMMUNALISM

India is such a country where the people different religious and communities live side by side. Though there is diversity in dress, manner, social customs and practices, yet India is a unique country in the world.

Communalism is the worst evil that has perpetrated and left in India by the colonial British imperialists for their own gains. This traditional peace loving country is sometimes plagued by communal problems. It all happens as some fanatical jealous persons indulge in torturing the people of other religions. The alarming rise of fundamentalism is a great concern to the nation. Almost all the States of our country suffer owing to religious intolerance. The economic condition of the India is not sound for increased population, Communal disturbances burst forth causing untold misery to the people. In addition there are three factors; race, religions and language for which communal disturbances are created.

Communal disturbances became a common feature when the English rulers prepared to leave India. The same statuesque is still continuing and yet India has not become free from the curse of communalism even in her post-independence days. Recently, the rise of communalism in our country is that some people are liked by for narrow political gains. The role of newspapers in fomenting such disturbances is not a little. It is the short sighted politicians who create the game of communal disharmony and it is a spread all over the country within no time.

Presently promotion of communal harmony is of paramount importance and the country's salvation depends on it. Forces of disruption are fed by poverty, lack of education, economic distress and indiscriminate partiality by the Central Government. To eradicate this, there is the need of alleviating economic distress of the people, but much greater is the need of spreading education at grassroots.

The laws of the land must not hesitate to put fundamentality and religious leaders under arrest. There should be speedy trials of trouble makers. For people's awareness of communal peace and harmony, Radio, television and newspapers should be used and message of unity should also be propagated through songs, plays and films. In these way evil forces trying to destroy this should be crushed at any cost and India can get free from the curse of communalism.
